I sit outside in the late afternoon shade listening to my neighborhood. Distance sounds of human voices yelling in sync, high school after school sports. My neighbor hammering in the yard. Short gusts of wind through the trees, many insects flying in the garden. I read the latest Trader Joes flier and suddenly I want to start shopping again. The items sound so yummy. I want to buy everything. Sitting here in the yard is good training for sitting in medical waiting rooms. Always something interesting happening when I am quiet.
The personal librarian arrives with an armload of books for me. So wonderful. She picks up the stacked books to return to the library. She has been helping me for years now. And of course, we sit and talk about our lives. Such a good friend.
I have a long phone conversation with my bladder cancer buddy. We are on different treatment paths. There is no best way. She listens to my explanation of what I expect from the Friday meeting with the urologist. I listen to her experiences of her treatment path.
I am just about finished reading HEAD FIRST, how the mind heals the body. This book has helped me soften my resistance to the next cancer treatment. And still watching FOUR SEASONS on netflix, another good enough series that isn’t focused on murders and detectives.
