Wednesday, October 30, 2024

Tuesday, I stay mostly in the house or on the deck.  Newspaper and mail remain outside. The tall man drags the garbage bins back into the patio, but doesn’t pick up the newspaper. He calls the NYTimes the fake news newspaper. The personal librarian comes by with a book and stories of her life. I can’t remember which of my friends likes licorice. I keep a bowl of licorice, and now a bowl of Reese’s Halloween candy for visitors.

Today is a new day, Time to face the world and go out to the front yard. Newspapers and mail are waiting for me. Birds, deer, construction trucks, neighbors continue on their daily activities. They haven’t missed me at all.

I am told that the doctor is going to call me about the change in plan.  No call yet.  I have come around to agreeing with the new plan. A friend is taking me for the next treatment. I watch my thoughts shift and struggle with the new information and now settle down. More laughter then tears today.

In the evening it is LINCOLN LAWYER time. I am in the middle of Marty Makary’s book, BLIND SPOTS, when medicine gets it wrong, and what it means for our health.  A very unsettling book. And yet it reminds me to pay attention and ask questions.
