As a kid in school in the 1940’s, we were given a candy filled toy ship on Columbus Day. The Knights of Columbus fraternal club wanted us to remember how America was discovered. I attended San Carlos Catholic school in Monterey. We also contributed coins for trees in Israel. We saw pictures of trees being planted at the edge of the desert.
Gusts of strong wind arrive in the afternoon shaking off brown pine needles from the trees. This morning several birds start eating the red berries from the enormous bush in the front yard.
Met with a friend at Sweet Elena’s for lunch. She has a sandwich and I have a lemon tart desert. We sit outside and talk, catching up with our lives. I am following my doctor’s suggestion of finding joy each day. I am in week one of chemo treatment.
I have started rereading THE OVERSTORY by Richard Power. Also, I am in the middle of several others that I may or may not finish. I am watching weekly episodes of DISCLAIMER on Apple plus. A good enough mini series.
