At fist in the middle of the night I hear the dogs barking and then, the firecrackers and the bigger explosions. Finally, quiet. I listen. No sirens, no fires started. I struggle to go back to sleep.

We watch an episode of THE LAST DETECTIVE, and soon my daughter says, oh, this is an old series. It doesn’t feel old to me.  Yes, Google says, 2003.  I am stuck in the past when I was in my 60’s.  It all seems so familiar to me, but to my daughter not so much.

I am also reading the novel, TRANSCENDENT KINGDOM by Yaa Oyasi. Well written and compelling. I continue to read the other two books on the table by my chair.  Books are my friends, each with a different conversation style.

Cold foggy morning.  I am tempted to start the heater.  It must be really hot inland from the coast. I put on my puffer jacket while I wait for the day to warm up.
