I am half asleep when I hear my cell phone ring. Let it ring. Who could be calling me so early. I go through the list of possibilities, many horrific. I can now list my current fears. I go back to sleep. When I do get up and look at the iPhone, the call is from my East Coast daughter saying hello before she goes to work. No one died or had a dreadful accident. No message from the urologist about cancer treatments.
As I write this, squirrels are thundering across my glass ceiling. Good morning I say to myself. Fogy overcast day. A dog is barking in the distance. Meals on wheels comes in the morning and in the afternoon, I pick up my daughter from her medical treatment.
I am watching the Acorn TV show THIS IS GOING TO HURT, a British medical story about a sad exhausted doctor in a crumbling hospital system. Somehow these kinds of stories lift my spirits. The squirrels have another go at racing across the glass ceiling.
The Scott Turow novel, PRESUMED GUILTY is a massive book focused on a murder trial. The story keeps my attention. This week, my life is centered on medical and legal stories.
