At the beginning of each session the young PT asks me, “How are you doing?”  I am hesitant and slow in trying to answer. Then he asks, “What did you do this weekend that was fun?”  I am stumped, how to answer. I don’t have words to describe my life, My life is good. I am glad to be alive. Taking an afternoon nap is fabulous, looking at the birds outside is fabulous, reading a book I love is great. Eventually in the 30 minute session we talk. But his questions are young people’s questions, not mine.

Maybe I can find better questions for him to ask. I point out that the Ceanothus plants are blooming in front of the building. Purple bluish flowers. He immediately checks his iPhone to see what they look like. I tell my young grandkids they are “see your noses” flowers. The downtown sycamore trees are leafing out. The ocean is flat and pale blue this morning, before tomorrow’s storm.

A new short library book, HEARTWOOD, The Art of Living with the End in Mind, by Barbara Becker.  A collection of essays about the death of people she knew. An engaging book so far.

My personal librarian comes over unexpectedly to watch the Rachel Maddow. We both are energized by this news show. I like watching with a friend.
