Slowly step by step I climb the stairs from the parking lot
to Nepenthe patio. One step at a time.
My daughter and I spend hours slowly eating lunch, talking , bathing in
the sunlight and ocean views, and finally laughing when the blue jays stole our
cold french fries.
We have two long waits on Highway 1 as the work crew are
paving the road. We turn off the car engine
and become seduced by the quiet mountains and oceans. Some people jump out of their cars to take
selfies on the ocean cliffs.
Today the house is mine alone again. A transition day as I become used to being here.
Reserved books are waiting for me at the library.
