Friends advise me to get a cat.  A cat, why would that help?  Other friends with cats also have rats.  I am told that we are experiencing an epidemic of rodents in our community so I am not alone.  But I am working on a rat free home for myself.

Busy noontime parking lot at Whole Foods.  Wind and rain.  I am driving  behind a person slowly walking in the middle of the roadway.  The old man turns around and walks to my car and hits it with his fist.  I drive forward and stop at the sign.  He comes up again and shakes his fist at me.  I wonder what I did wrong. I drive home carefully thorough the storm.  I carry the bags of groceries into my house.
