I am meeting my friend at the Crossroads coffee house. She is late and when she arrives, she is
pale, hoarse and with a messy cold. I
pull back and tell her to keep her distance.
I don’t want to catch a cold. She
laughs. No really don’t touch me. We
talk across the table for a few minutes.
I tell her to go home to her bed. I come home and wash my hands over and
over again.
At home I heat up soup from Safeways and toast two pieces of
bread. I eat and watch the latest Daily
Show with Trevor Noah on comcast on demand.
I laugh. Then I wash the dishes
and my hands one more time.
I am relaxing with a new mystery story writer, Jon Talton’s
first book, CONCRET DESERT, Published in 2001. Set in Phoenix Arizona. So far, I like it. My mom’s family came from Arizona. I have a
lot of memories of the desert and the heat.
