Saturday, January 4, 2025

I get out of bed and pull up my heavy fleece sweat pants. So warm. I waddle to the kitchen to start the coffee. Heater turned on. And oh yes, wearing my green puffer jacket.  I am ready for the cold morning.

About every tenth book I find a winner. This time the prize is THE LIGHT EATERS, by Zoe Schlanger. Each page is thoughtful and engaging. “How the unseen world of plant intelligence offers a new understanding of life on earth.”

In the evening the TV is off. Three of us are sprawled on the couch and chairs reading books. The other two are huddled over the dinning room table completing their second puzzle and giggling together.

I finish the antibiotics and now wait to see if they work. My daughter takes me to the post office to renew my old passport. This trip she is focused on getting my passport.   I don’t understand, I am not going anywhere.
