The two college guys and I go for a 9am breakfast at Denny’s.  We plan all week to going to Denny’s. We don’t invite the others. We love Denny’s.  Get a booth by the window.  They order huge breakfasts, me not so much. And we talk about our lives as an old woman and as college kids. It is more expensive than I remember.

Sunday morning, the mad rush is on, coffee, showers, packing suitcases, checking for left items, find the charging cords for devices, anything in the bathroom, more suitcases, backpacks, return my car keys to ledge, beds made, dishes done, garbage out. No time, move fast, hugs, goodbyes and the two cars drive off with the four passengers and piles of luggage.

Now the house is quiet and time for me to adjust to the new silence. Already I miss them.

The Christmas tree is dragged to the curb. We watch an old animated short called PETER AND THE WOLF. A wonderful, wonderful film. I am back in control of the remotes. No more football until they return in the future.
