We are drinking coffee at the Paris Bakery.  She has been desperately looking for a good book to read. And she realizes that she had a lot of books on her shelf.  So she rereads GIOVANNI’S ROOM by James Baldwin. The second time is better. She is a better reader now. Time to reread all of her books.

I drive through the back roads of old Fort Ord avoiding the stalled traffic on Highway 1 going to an early afternoon meeting at the Veterans Transition center. Neighborhoods of new houses, trashed barracks, old usable military housing and then stables with horse.  I drive on old rutted roads with no center line. In the distance the blue ocean bay.

At Five Guys Hamburger place for the first time I am confronted by all the choices.  I just want a simple burger. The counter person is giving me all the options. The people in the line are pushing me to hurry and decide. I make blind decisions and end up with food I don’t much like.
