It is surprising how normal everyone looks in the cancer center waiting room. Hard to tell the difference between staff, friends, and patients. I am imprinted with images of gaunt haunted patients. This waiting room, is my new home for developing patience and watching people. Maybe I too look normal. Friends say you looks so good Kathy. We all look good.
Still winter weather here in Monterey. Damp, overcast. The days are getting longer and the plants are showing color and grace. Still, I keep on my warm sweats and orange puffer jacket.
I watch another episode of THE RESIDENT on Prime, an intense series on the lives, loves, and mistakes of doctors and nurses in a beautiful for profit hospital.
I am rereading Atul Gawande’s book, BEING MORTAL, medicine and what matters in the end. Now that I am really old, the book is kind of scary as I see what could be my future. I want to avoid being over treated with tests and drugs and procedures.
