I saw a herman gull sitting on the fence at San Carlos beach
Tuesday morning. Also a flock of small black birds and a bunch of crows.
The old dead oak tree in my neighbor’s yard looks lethal. I can’t complain. Birds sit on the dry limbs checking out the
neighborhood.
Sickly yellow light this Wednesday morning. Ash falls on the deck, the car and the house.
I look for the updates of the local fires in Salinas and Carmel Valley. I am
breathing carefully.
I start reading WRITING WILD, women poets, ramblers, and mavericks
who shape how we see the natural world by Kathryn Aalto. A distraction from the
fires and heat and viruses.
