The weather report online predicts rain today. I so want this to be true. I am ready for the grasses to grow again, the land to be green. It is time for fire season to be over.
Outside my window the workers are trimming the neighbor’s yard. They speak in Spanish. It is hard to know what they are actually doing. I was unsuccessful in learning Spanish when I was younger. Now I just listen to the sounds and patterns like I do with the bird calls and songs.
The brown and blue bins are lined up on the street waiting for the lumbering garbage trucks to arrive. My writing friends return to my house on Monday morning to write together.
My personal librarian is back with a pile of books for me. I give her a bag of books to place in her neighborhood small free libraries. It is exciting to think that someone might enjoy these books. In the evening, we watch GIRLS4EVA. On netflix. Slapstick funny, quirky, sometimes dumb. We are hooked. No bodies, no detectives, no beautiful scenes from old British towns.
