My personal librarian comes with a stack of library books for me and removes the old ones. Time for a fresh pile of books. I give her books to put in her neighborhood free libraries. We watch Rachel Maddow on MSNBC together. I watch TV alone. Folks in my family are not so interested in TV news. I am surprised we have very different emotional reactions to Trump and his chaos making friends.

This morning, I receive an alert on my phone about strong winds and flooding arriving today. I wonder if this time I will lose my house power.

I look out the window at the blowing branches and the hard rain. Where do the birds go for protection. I am staying in my house today.

I am enjoying reading Phillip Lopate’s new collection of essays, A YEAR AND A DAY. I love good personal essays like these. I wonder if I could ever write these kinds of essays.
