The five small stuffed animals sit on the table facing my recliner. On the back of the couch sit a red octopus and a fish. They are my friends.
Old people like me, avoid showering. It is a struggle. I know this because my older friends confess their reluctance. I do not know why, maybe we want to stay warm, maybe our skin gets too dry. Maybe we are afraid of falling and dying in the shower. It is awkward to talk about this part of aging.
I finish watching season two of THE DIPLOMAT. Such a great show. Also, I tell my friends about MARTHA, another great movie. Both on netflix.
I have been playing computer solitaire rather than reading. A calming pastime. Lately I am restless when reading. I still am in the middle of SHANGHAI REDEMPTION, a detective story by Qiu Xiaolong. Outside a mile away, the half marathon run has started. The sounds of the crowds and amplified speakers come through my closed windows. I sit in my bedroom, heater on, drinking coffee and eating breakfast.
