I keep my appointment with the eye doctor at the Crossroads shopping center. For the first time in several years, I drive over the Carmel hill amidst car week traffic. The pine trees, the highway, and the traffic are all familiar. Now I am ordering new glasses on line.
The staff make exaggerated kind comments to me, you look great, you are so healthy. I know this is just talk, and it raises my spirits. Yes, I do feel good. Placebo talk works, even when I know it is not real.
Finished reading the 2014 book, DOCTORED, The disillusionment of an American Physician by Sandeep Jauhar. Finally, I am developing a more realistic view of humans who work as doctors. For so long I have been caught up in society’s fantasies about the medical profession.
The day warms up. A neighbor brings me a bowl of black berries. The doors and windows are open, classical music plays on KDFC radio. I forget to pick up my mail at the mail box again.
