The massive storm blew out the power in my house and the Peninsula. Cold clammy house, wet basement rooms, leaks in the skylights, trees furiously trying to hit the ground. Tables and chairs blown around the property. Sirens racing through the town. And now at my house, the electricity is restored. And now I am warm and fed.

Without power I am on the wrong side of our civilized world. Our town is divided between those who have electricity and are warm and fed and the others.  It is strange to be one of the others. Kind people brought me hot coffee, ice for my refrigerator, cold meals on wheels, conversation.  I have a fire in the fireplace in the day and at night I read by the solar lantern.

Didn’t think about my health and treatments and illnesses.  Time moves slowly towards the dark evening.

I read most of Jane Harper’s new Australian mystery book EXILES, sitting in my chair by the window. I am surprise to realize all is well.
