The clinic nurse says, didn’t they call you with a prescription over the weekend? No, I respond, nobody called. Oh yes, she says, I see no one called you. I say, I thought the clinic was just going to let me die. On no, she says, we have had a lot of staff turnover. I spend all day apologizing to patients. She says the clinic is trying to be better. She orders the prescriptions. She will cancel a bunch of appointments because of the delay with the medicines. Sigh. I wish I understood how to be visible in this clinic.
Last night I start the new medicine to cure the hospital infection from my last surgery. It is never done. I feel tired and overwhelmed today.
I am encouraged by Henry Marsh’s new book AND FINALLY. I am reading it slowly and thinking through his information about medicine and sickness.
My two writing friends come in the morning for our weekly time together. We have been writing together for years. The writing voice is so different from the conversation voice.
