The Hartnell medical waiting room is regal, high ceilings, arches, tall windows, great art on the white walls. This morning I’m here for the missed PT appointment. Few people. One shrunken old man pushes a five wheeled walker, his attendant near him. I can’t figure out how the walker works. A tall man comes in the front door carrying two large boxes of donuts. He walks through the room and out the back door. A woman arrives wearing one tennis shoe and one slipper. I sit and watch the room making up stories in my mind. I want a donut.
The PT is, as usual, kind and engaging. He shows me new exercises for my abdomen muscles. He continues with leg and balance exercises. I continue to talk about the best foods in town, cookies, carrot cake and ad astra bread.
The personal librarian brings over another stack of books. I will never get through them. We talk, eat dinner and watch the last two episodes of my very favorite show, LUDWIG. I still laugh at the familiar parts.
In the evening my body is sore. I take some Tylenol and get comfy, and continue to read the detective novel, DEAD IN THE FRAME. Before going to sleep I play a bit of computer solitaire.
