The text messages arrive from Connected Care, a new Medicare program, recommended by my oncologist. She wants to help manage my cancer care. But the messages sound AI generated. I ask if she is AI. She doesn’t respond. How can she make my life easier. She creates a work plan for me and sends it by text.  I can’t read it on my cell phone, please send it by email.  Nope she can’t do it. Another program that is confusing to me.

We do talk on the phone finally and she sounds like a real human being. She only gives me her first name. She says she is a nurse and works off site.  She plans to mail me the plan and I will decide if it will help me. I want to teach her to do better outreach to patients.

Twice a week I pick up my daughter after her medical treatments. We return to my house and I feed her and then we watch TV.  Now we are loving Pee Wee Herman’s documentary.

The day warms up. I close the curtains in the living room. I start reading a delightful book, PEGGY by Rebecca Godfrey, a fictionalized story of Peggy Guggenheim’s life. I am restless to get on with my life, to start new projects.  Instead, I take a nap.
