It is late Friday morning and the MOW volunteers are running late with meal delivery. I keep watching for them. Two young women drive up and unload the bag. They are energetic and quick stepping. The heavy amazon box has been outside for days, too heavy for me, full of medical supplies. I ask for help. The younger woman immediately hoists up the package and brings it to the dining room table. This is a box that comes every week. As they are walking down the steps I start crying. So much kindness.
In the late afternoon, sitting outside, I hear the clicking of the humming bird and then a buzz and the bird darts though the air, back and forth from the oak tree to the bottle bush blossoms. My favorite time of the day to sit quietly in the front garden.
Suddenly, it is time to get the latest COVID vaccine. I have been hesitant during chemo treatment. Family members are coming to visit soon and I want to get out into the world.
Another book has captured my interest, Rachel Clarke’s memoir DEAR LIFE, a doctor’s story of love and lost. Story of her work as a palliative care doctor. Perfect for me.
