With the retreat of storms and the return of the warm sun I am rediscovering the peace of sitting outside listening to the bird chatter.  A flock of cedar waxwings burst into view, settle for a moment in the trees and quickly fly off.

Now I have a planned 6 week recovering time from medical treatments.  No appointments, no infusions. I learned that cancers are not painful. The pain arises when healthy tissues are impacted by the tumor growths.  So far the pain for me has been with the surgeries and infusions. The whole cancer life feels a bit abstract. So much is still a mystery to me.

Family members continue to help, with airing out the flooded basement, food shopping and delightful conversations.  And of course, taking out the trash and garbage that accumulates each day. I am so grateful.

I am reading Pico Iyer’s new book, THE HALF KNOWN LIFE, IN SEARCH OF PARADISE. Now I am feeling a sense of well being as I continue to slowly read the chapters.
