Drove to McGowan house in the dark for meditation.  The church next door was brightly lit with Christmas trees and colored lights strung around the room. I had to smile. When I returned to my car the trees and lights were diminished by the morning light.

Came home to my cold house, turned on the heater and started working on my computer.

The rat struck again, tearing open a box of raisinettes, chocolate covered raisins. They were scattered in my straw basket.  This morning I opened a box of candy I received for Christmas.  Is there a secure place to hide it from the rat?  Rat exterminator is coming on Thursday to make a plan.

I watch Rachel Maddow most evenings. I close the living room curtains, bring out my usual dinner of yogurt, milk and chips and settle into my recliner.  Sometimes it is just popcorn and milk. I want to know what is happening.  I don’t want to be surprised by a wave of history.  Last week she was exuberant, filled with excitement and optimism. What will it be this week?  What will these thoughtful bright women politicians come up with next?  I can’t stop smiling.
