Happy Halloween.  The kids breezed in with their costumes ready to trick or treat in my neighborhood.  The parents were also in costumes.  I got to sit at home to answer the door and read a quiet book, like a good grandmother.

My sister and I ate an early dinner at a Cannery Row Restaurant.  We got a window seat and spent a lot of time looking out on the ocean.  On the wet rocks near the window were some black birds.  I knew them but I couldn't remember the names.  My bind was truly a blank.  Finally this morning the name popped into my head.  OYSTER CATCHERS, that who they were.

Monday, October 29, 2012

Spent the afternoon and evening watching the monster storm attack the east coast on the weather channel.  I ignored our beautiful sunny fall day outside and kept looking for the real disaster.  How pathetic.  My East coast family is safe.

Saturday, October 27, 2012

Balmy warm Fall evening.  Seals are barking in the distance.  Crickets making their usual noise. The hum of my computer.  Had dinner at Fifi in Pacific Grove with my sister Patty and talked non stop all evening.  Life is good.

Friday, October 26, 2012

Full moon tonight.  I took a slow short walk outside tonight.  Felt like I was bathing in moon light and star light. Now that our evening fogs are gone for awhile the night sky is lit up.  I vote for stars.  and moons

Thursday, October 25, 2012

I am so tired of the election entertainment.  It's like a team sports event.  zis my team winning and if not, why not.  I am part of Team Obama.  I have my ballot on my desk.  I have been hesitant to vote until I made a decision on some local positions. I am now ready to mark my ballot and mail it in.

Sitting in my chair, heater blowing, siren in the distance, a plane coming in low, birds chirping.  Just another day in paradise.

Monday, October 22, 2012

I checked the beach this morning and all the tents were gone.

Big rain storm this morning, watching the street gutters filled up quickly and overrun the tires of the parked cars.  And then the rain stopped and the gutters cleared.  sun came out.  I hope it was enough water for the gardens.

Sunday, October 21, 2012

I went to the wharf in the morning and the tents were being taken down. I don't know where these folks are moving to now.

Last night I got cold in bed but was too sleepy to get up and get more blankets.  tonight I will start with more blankets.

Saturday, October 20, 2012

Spent time on wharf 2 this afternoon.  Sitting in my car, windows down and watching people walking by.  Out on the beach I noticed for the first time 5 tents off in the distance.  A beginning of a homeless encampment.  I had heard about it but I hadn't seen it before.  Our poor have to go someplace..

Lots of oak moths hovering around.  They are short lived and should be done in by the time the cold comes.  The oak trees need a break.

Friday, tonight I am going to catch up with seeing The Good Wife episodes on TV.  Sounds like a plan.

Thursday, October 18, 2012

Hot day, and in the afternoon a wind comes up. I wonder if the fog is going to come in in the morning.  I left the house before day break and got back a noon.  Felt I had put in a full day's work.  Spent the afternoon with a cold wet wash wag on my head and reading the book POSTWAR by Tony Judt.

Wednesday, October 17, 2012

I am looking for some embroidery hoops.  we want to use them for writing on prayer flags at the opening of the Homeless women project in November.

I am not sure why we decided on prayer flags but this is the plan.

I checked on amazon but they are too expensive.  I will continue to look around.

Quiet evening.  The two kids returned to their parents tonight after four days with me. My house is now so quiet.  Mostly it was good, a few struggles between the kids, long term sibling struggles but most of the time we had fun and we were comfortable with each other.  Now it is quiet.

Monday, October 15, 2012

Beautiful fall day.  the neighbors are having their house painted.  I can see the workmen on their ladders scrapping away, doing a lot of prep work. One of the workmen climbs down from the ladder and takes a picture of the house and their truck.  He then goes back up the ladder.  I wonder what that was all about.

Some days I just don't have anything to say.  this is one of those days.

Saturday, October 13, 2012

The eleven year old girl and I took a walk in the dark after dinner.  we listened to the crickets.  she said she had never know what the sounds were.  We saw a line of young deer cross the street.  We complained about the new cheaper white street lights.  We both preferred the yellow incandescent lights. Saw a few stars and the vast lights around the bay.

Friday, October 12, 2012

Sitting outside at noon as the sun came out of the clouds and the plants were all wet and sparkly.  Immediately dozens of time flying insects were hovering around the shrubs.  Where did they come from? They were proto type helicopters.  Really they were flying insects but I thought of helicopters as they flew around the garden.

I need to read more science fiction.

I am keeping my fingers crossed while I wait for the debate to start.  I am a reluctant watcher.  I feel I should be above wanting to watch.

Wednesday, October 10, 2012

I order books from Amazon because I have heard or seen something that appeals to me.  I am curious about many aspects of living.  And the boxes pile up on my desk.  I am afraid to open them and be disappointed.  So they sit there for weeks.  Tomorrow I will open the current batch of books,  yes I will.

Tuesday, October 9, 2012

Drove to Santa Cruz for lunch with an old friend.  Beautiful Fall day.  the fields being harvested, traffic reasonable and the friend and I talked and ate in a sushi restaurant.  When I got home I was ready for my afternoon nap.

Monday, October 8, 2012

Scott came in the house just now and said come out.  the white deer is back and I rushed out and I missed him.  We have an albino deer in the neighborhood and I think I am the only one who has not seen it.  Next time I say to myself, next time.

Sunday, October 7, 2012

I am walking carefully today, favoring a sore leg.  I did go out for lunch at Turtle Bay with my New York Times Sunday papers.  Ate chicken flautas.  Came home and read more of POSTWAR by Tony Judt.  I am at 300 pages, 600 more to go.  Still a stimulating book.

Saturday, October 6, 2012

Watched the first episode of the third season of Treme tonight.  The music makes my feet want to dance.  I love it.  So many characters, I can't quite follow the story line, just want to dance.

Friday, October 5, 2012

Had a late lunch at Lou Lou's on the wharf.  Crowded with people at 1:30 in the afternoon.  when we finally got an outside table it was wonderful.  soft fall afternoon, ocean right there, cars, people, and huge sky.  Ate salad and clam chowder,

Thursday, October 4, 2012

Normal weather is back, cool fog in the evening.  took a long nap today, I will probably be up late.  Neighborhood is quiet.  Sometime a car passes by.  the street is dark.  Fall is here.

Wednesday, October 3, 2012

Feeling sad tonight.  cooler weather.  A violent crime happened near by.  Watched the debates. hated them.  Need to go to sleep and wake up less sad.

Tuesday, October 2, 2012

Heat again.  Went to write at Jack's Peak Park this morning with the plein air writers.  Hot.  Constantly looking for shade.

Do you know how skinny pine trees are?  Their shadows are constantly slipping away.  I am a wimp in the heat.

Tomorrow the fog returns.  I will do a welcoming dance to the fog on my deck.

Monday, October 1, 2012

Heat, the hot weather has arrived.  Can't think or do anything without the presence of the heat.  when the sun is out I open all my doors and windows and the house heats up. I need to learn the skills of heat.  Maybe the fog will be back soon.  I think so.

some new migrating song birds have passed through my yard this week.

Also we have lots of deer wondering around the streets.
