I took another walk at the cemetery today. Fog was just breaking up. song birds around, one woodpecker, no Canadian geese. Quiet lovely place to walk.

Afterwords I called my sister on my cell phone to say hello. While talking to her I saw my old doctors grave, Dr. Waligora. What a surprise. He danced at my wedding 50 years ago.

I am obsessed with the sun. It came out at noon in Monterey for several hours. I opened the doors and sat outside to soak up some sun.

I have been reading the Robert Caro book on LBJ. I realize I no longer care what he was thinking and doing in 1960. I am putting the book back on the book shelf.

Drove to Carmel Valley this morning for a board meeting. Wached squirrels race across the street. they would start across and then stop to look. If they were lucky they wouldn't be hit by a car. Saw a bunch that were smashed by cars. I wonder why they want to get to the other side of the road. I saw them going in both directions. What a hard life.

Saturday, July 28, 2012

Took dinner over to a couple who had twins four weeks ago. the babies are tiny but the house is crowded with baby stuff. It is so hard with babies. I am waiting to enjoy the kids when they are smiling and responding. The parents seem tired.

I don't know if I am going to watch the Olympics. I am not watching the opening right now. Maybe I can see it on demand tomorrow . Maybe they are not so much fun to watch alone. I hate the commercials. It doesn't seem so real, more staged then real. Maybe tomorrow I will change my mind.

Thursday, July 26, 2012

I've started fertilizing my potted plans and now they are springing to life. Just what they needed. What do I need to spring to life. Sometimes I am so tired i just don't want to get off the couch. Oh for some fertilizer.

good day today. Met my writing buddy at The
works coffee house and talked and wrote most of the morning.

Feels like I have accomplished something, not sure what. But it feels good.

Tuesday, July 24, 2012

I have been watching the series NEWSROOM on HBO and actually like it. I have read reviews damning it but in this last episode I actually got tears in my eyes. I find it hard to fine interesting shows on TV but I keep looking.

Monday, July 23, 2012

One of the benefits of walking at the cemetery is that it is quiet and has very few people hanging out. this time there were crowds of Canadian geese eating something from the grassy areas and leaving big wet poop where ever they went. I stayed on the road as I took my slow walk. I heard lots of song birds but didn't actually see them.

Sunday, July 22, 2012

Went to a small outdoor afternoon party in foggy Pacific Grove. Mostly people I don't know. I went from group to group looking for a conversation I could join. I didn't have anything to say about vintage cars, golfing or wooden flooring. I need to expand my ability to talk about different topics.

Robert Caro's book on LBJ is looong. I wonder if I will ever finish it. What I like about it is that he describes the 50's and 60's so I can now see a bit clearer what was happening when I was a youth. Life was much more complicated then I ever imagined. I will keep plugging away at it. I did finish his first three long books.

Friday, July 20, 2012

I have resisted being sucked into the today's shooting tragedy. Turned off the news. It is such a trap for me to get caught by the never ending news cycle. so tonight I sat by the open door while I ate dinner and now I am going to continue reading Robert Caro's book on Lyndon Johnson, THE PASSAGE OF POWER.

Thursday, July 19, 2012

Drove 40 miles on Highway 1 to have lunch with friends in Santa Cruz. Lots of highway construction going on and backed up traffic. Also the strawberry plants were full of ripe berries. The fields along the highway were planted and growing. We people in our cars kept moving forward.

Driving home last night at dusk I saw a family of deer crossing the road on Pacific Street in Monterey. there is something wonderful see how animals are coming back into our towns. That we actually sharing this land, this town with live animals that are not pets on leashes or not hidden in the ground or in the sewer pipes. yea for deer.

Tuesday, July 17, 2012

The baby Canadian geese have grown and are now crowding out each other on the grass around Roberts Lake. I wonder what their natural enemy is. I think they are beautiful but I don't like to walk where they have been, too much poop. Another foggy day.

Monday, July 16, 2012

Now that the kids have left after ten day visit I have had to restock my somewhat secret candy stash. Everybody raided it. They took the good candy and left the old stale candy behind. Time to throw out the old and go to Trader Joes for more candy.

Sunday, July 15, 2012

At noon the sun came out. Doors and windows all over town were thrown open. Now the fog is drifting back.
Went to see Moonrise Kingdom for the second time. It was even better the second time. Maybe the third time it will be perfect.

Saturday, July 14, 2012

I am the last of my friends who reads the newspapers or watches the news on TV. They tell me it is too depressing. They catch the news on the radio when they drive around town. NPR. I still am following the political and internatonal events. Somehow I think it is important but I am not sure wy.

foggy, foggy, foggy.
Even so the apricots from the other tree are ripening. A couple of tiny tomatoes are reddening. the lettuce is doing really well, not a surprise.

Everyone leaves tomorrow and the house will be quiet for awhile. I will miss them.

Thursday, July 12, 2012

Sat at Lovers Point this morning with the window down watching the animal/bird life. Foggy, cold. The ocean is soothing to me even in its various shades of grey. It is like all the color has been drained from the town. Tomorrow the fog is supposed to lift.

Wednesday, July 11, 2012

Went to the Sports center this morning and while I was walking on the treadmill I saw my son working out across the room. Such a handsome guy. Sometimes I don't recognize him when I see him in an unexpected place. but this time I did.

Tuesday, July 10, 2012

Sun finally burnt off the fog. Maybe we will have a couple of sunny days. Sitting outside near the bottle brush bush I kept hearing this engine moving around. Finally I saw that it was a humming bird whirling around. Sounded like a helicopter it was so loud in this silent sunny afternoon.

Monday, July 9, 2012

another foggy day. Spent time doing tasks, errands and then taking naps. Finally got it together to cook a toco dinner for the family. Reminds me when the kids were young and we had lots of friends for dinner. Mostly I eat alone so having people for dinner was great.

Sunday, July 8, 2012

Went to lunch with my daughter at Cafe Trieste on alvarado Street. I had told her that the tourists would be gone but no the streets were still crowded with shivering people in summer clothes. It definitely is not summer here. Even had the heater on this morning.

Saturday, July 7, 2012

Went to meet two newborn twins at the Hospital yesterday afternoon. So cute and so small. Parents are exhausted and babies are slowly acclimating to this new wonderful world. I am part of a meal delivery team that is supporting the parents for the first couple of months. Yea to tired parents.

Thursday, July 5, 2012

We ate our first tomato from the garden today. We missed all the apricots from the small tree. One day they were all gone. The big tree has some apricots that are just beginning to ripen. The apples and plums are coming along.

Wednesday, July 4, 2012

Happy Fourth of July. We ar3 having our usual c9ld foggy weather. time for a parade and a picnic. Family visiting. All is well.

Tuesday, July 3, 2012

I helped a friend set up her first blog. So many decisions to make and the format has changed since I first set up mine. Now I can't remember the name of her blog. I wonder if she has written anything in it. Foggy day. Going writing at San Carlos Beach this morning with the plein air writers.
