Two unkempt bulky men were blocking traffic at Whole foods. Walking slowly, looking at people. they looked at me and I shivered and made sure my car door was locked.
They started walking towards me and I shook my head no. I was not willing to give them money.
They stopped, turned around and started moving to the edge of the parking lot.
When I left the store they were gone.

My fingers are sticky with cashews and glue. I am just finishing the monthly mailing for the zen center.
No one says I have to do this but I have convinced myself that it is useful to the life of the community.
So now I have a big paper bag filled with sealed envelops.
I will drop them off on the way ot lunch with friends.
The post office must love me.

I took the day off today. We used to call this the thirty six hour rest cure, cancel everything, stay in your jammies, nap and eat and read a good mystery story. I have just discovered Elizabeth George and so today I lay on my couch and read until the surprising end.
The rest cure ends tomorrow morning, I will be ready to do the next thing. Already I feel better.

Warm sunny afternoon. A loud siren starts out with others following. The fire house down the street is rushing around away from my house, from my neighborhood. Some unknown emergency.
Now that we have inadequate newspapers I will never know what is happening. I know more about New York then do about Monterey.
I wonder what news source will arise for us local folks.

This morning I turned my heater on in my car to push out the cold. Cold foggy morning. But by noon, the sun was out and I had just eaten a cheese enchilada and my car had been sitting in the sun.
I turned on the air conditioner, the first time this year.
Sometimes I am hot and sometimes I am cold but not usually in the same day.

In the early morning before dawn I stop at the post office to check our mail box. I love walking into the warm empty room.
There is a homeless man who has found shelter from the rain just outside the door. It is so cold outside.
My car hasn't warmed up enough for the heat to come on but the post office is toasty.
I take Several pieces of mail back to my car to read later.

After I parked my car and crossed the street a middle aged man in a red sports car slowed down by me and yelled ASS HOLE, YOU SHOULD LOOK WHERE YOU ARE GOING. I wondered who he was talking to.
Me .
Then I wondered what I did to make him so angry. I just don't know. I wish he had informed me of what I did wrong so I could correct it. All I heard was his rage.

In the dark just before dawn I was waling in the Cherry Center Sculpture garden. I could start to see the green grass and the trees and then I saw a variety of mushrooms popping up in the leafy loom.
They were like visitors form outer space.
I will have to go in the daytime and see what it was that I saw.

It rained on and off all day. I was diligently working on a sewing project, marking and cutting and pinning. I think it will never be done, endless toil.
I did skip out in the afternoon to go to the movies. Saw the CREATION about Charles Darwin.
I liked it. and then I came home and did some more sewing.

Took the two young kids and a stack of old computers, printers and DVD players to the local dump in Marina.
We spent time at the Last Chance Mercantile to look over stuff we might want to buy. For $2.50 we bout a wine glass, a mug and various defunct stuff that was intriguing to the boy.
We all went away satisfied with our morning's work.

At Whole Foods parking lot I walk between the parked cars to get to the front entrance. Always I am on the look out for dogs left in cars who will bark and lunge at me as I walk by.
I watch for the car window that is slightly open.
Today I arrived at the front entrance unbitten and un barked. I count that as a victory.

Driving to the coffee house in Carmel this morning I was struck by the name of one of the main streets. Lincoln. Named after our wonderful president and now has become just a name on a street sign. This street goes through residential and commercial sections of town.
Maybe I am getting too sensitive as I continue to read about Lincoln's life. I love the Lincoln memorial but I am not sure about Lincoln street in Carmel..

An unexpected balmy day today. I sat outside in the sun in the afternoon reading A TEAM OF RIVAL by Doris Kearns Goodwin. A study oft Abraham Lincoln's time.
The book reminds me that each time in history had it's own problems. We are not the only generation that feels desperate about the world situation.
