I took an early morning walk in the fog along the rec trail in Pacific Grove. The trail is divided between the bicyclists and he walkers with the bicycle trail being much wider and yet there are more walkers.

My sense of fairness started kicking in. I should complain, write a letter to someone. Then I noticed how beautiful the walk actually is and that there is really enough room for me.

A friend and I watched the Hulk on HBO this evening. Pizza and salad and a fast paced action movie.

The movie was too loud for me and the silence in the living room when the TV was turned of was wonderful.

Enough TV for awhile.

When I sit on my living room couch I see a giant sunflowers peeking through the front window as if they are curious to see what the inside looks like.

My neighbor has painted his house and now mine is beginning to look shabby but I am not going to do anything about it.

Foggy day all day and yet there are some more red tomatoes on the vine. The plants are on a roll. We also have a huge crop of quinces.

Does anyone know what to do with quinces? I don't. My roommate is researching ways to use them and is offering them to friends.

I do know what to do with tomatoes.

I have a bag of scraps from Talbert's shirts. I am cutting and sewing pieces together to make a quilt.

The fabric is so thin and pale that I am not sure it is going to do well in a quilt but I keep working on it.

the quilt is beginning to grow on me.

Drove to Santa Cruz this morning for an early class. On the way back I hit beach traffic and Moss Landing festival traffic. Two hours for a forty minute drive. Stop and start.

I can hardly wait for my new car with automatic drive.

My left leg is sure sore with using the clutch.

Saturday, July 25, 2009

I took a walk after dark this evening, a slow walk down the block. Thick fog in the trees, street light creating shadows. A party some where with drums beating and voices laughing.

A solitary cat followed me, it's bell on it neck tinkling..

Now it is time to go to bed.

Friday, July 24, 2009

I'm a two computer person, a tiny netbook and a laptop. My laptop has just been made whole by Carlos after spending several days in his shop.

I've been missing it and will be glad when it is back on my desk.

Wednesday, July 22, 2009

I ate the first tomato from the garden today. More tomatoes are growing and soon I will have more tomatoes then I know what to do with.

I'm still undecided about what color I should get in the new car. I don't have to decide right away but I am looking forward to getting the car.

Tuesday, July 21, 2009

I test drove a new Honda element. I am beginning the process of being patriotic and buying a new car.
I like it's utilitarian feel.
I like the safety stuff.

I don't much like the colors but I can live with them, all but the orange, I can't live with that.

I have to think about this and then Michael will begin the negotiations.

I wonder if I can have it repainted.

I am getting excited.

I was so impressed with the John Adams HBO series that I have now started to read the new book by Edith Gelles called ABIGAIL AND JOHN, a portrait of a marriage. It is so interesting I can hardly put it down.

Sunday, July 19, 2009

I have a free day today to do whatever I want. So what is it that I want? Such a hard question. What is it that I want?

Saturday, July 18, 2009

We had our farm walk at Earthbound farms today. Walking through the dusty fields, cutting snap dragons and sun flowers, digging onions, potatoes, cutting lettuce, kale, until my basket was too heavy.

I got home and washed the dirty potatoes. then I drew a bath to soak my tired body.

My toes were as dirty as the potatoes.

I couldn't stop laughing.

Friday, July 17, 2009

Drove by Carmel Beach around noon today. fog was just clearing. the beach was full of people, dogs swimmers, surfers. It felt like summer finally. another warm day with fog waiting to return in the evening. Now I am going out to water the garden, The tomatoes are beginning to turn red.

During the morning sewing class I kept thinking about a pizza diner tonight for the kids. At noon I went to Pavel's to buy the pizza and was told they were out. Now I had to think of something else for dinner with the 7 and 9 year old kids. I ended up buying hot dogs. They were not a big hit.

Went with a bruised and battered friend to look at the sidewalk at the sports center where she tripped and fell on her face. she was trying to figure out what had happened.

I showed her that the tiles in the cement walkway had been recently repaired with a caulking and how it grabbed at my shoe as I slid my shoe across the surface.

I find as I get older I am prone to falls no matter how safe the area is.

Tuesday, July 14, 2009

We're beginning a heat wave. Early morning walk on the waterfront. It was surprisingly busy. lines of men with fishing poles, white buckets with sardine like fish dying slowly, two boats being unloaded into plastic bins filled with ice. activity everywhere. People busy and excited.

Now I am home trying to keep my house cool.

Monday, July 13, 2009

I am going to watch the last episode of the John Adams HBO series. I am so touched by it. How hard their lives were and how hard our lives are.

Warm sunny day. Took a long nap on the couch during the hottest part of the day.

Sunday, July 12, 2009

During one thirty minute period of zazen this morning I became obsessed with the sounds on the roof. Thumping, running. hitting. What was it? I don't know. it went away and I stayed in my seat.

Saturday, July 11, 2009

Went to San Carlos beach again, brought cheese and crackers and my chair. The fog had lifted and the sky had high clouds. Maybe we will be getting some rain. Lots of families with little kids playing on the beach. I didn't see any whales.

Friday, July 10, 2009

Spent the afternoon picking up the 7 and 9 year olds from their different camps. It became dicey when I went to the wrong gymnastic camp. We found a phone book and was able to locate the correct center. All was OK in the end.

we watched cartoon for a while waiting for the parents. I am learning to like Chowder once I got through the characters all screaming at each other. Spongebob screams too.

Is this how the world looks to kids? I prefer some guiet talk.

Thursday, July 9, 2009

Spent time again at San Carlos beach by the Coast guard pier. This time I was there in the late afternoon. I found a free parking place, carried my aluminum chair and sat at the edge of the ocean. It was like living in a beach house.

Then went to Papa Chevo's on Cannery Row for dinner.

I am now reading the novel THE ELEGANCE OF THE HEDGEHOG by Muriel Barbery, a recently translated French best seller. I do like it.

I plan to spend more time at the beach this summer.

Wednesday, July 8, 2009

Picked more lettuce and sugar peas from the garden this morning.

Spent the morning working on my writing on my computer. Am stuck trying to get my netbook to interact with my printer. There must be an easier way.

Tuesday, July 7, 2009

I took an early morning walk on the waterfront this morning. The sun and fog were chasing each other. In the shallow water I saw five crabs moving around. Lots of star fish and even some tiny black fish swimming. Maybe the ocean is coming back.

Later I sat at San Carlos beach by the coast guard pier I watched lines of pelican dip and rise near the ocean.

The parking cost a dime for 4 minutes. I spent all my change for 35 minutes by the beach. Next time I will bring more money.

Monday, July 6, 2009

I took a bin of mail to the post office this morning, the Sangha newsletter for the summer. Surprisingly there was a parking place right in front.

The bulk mail lady said business is down, not enough people mailing stuff. Lay offs are going to take place soon.

So get busy write and mail your letters. now is the time to patriotic.

Sunday, July 5, 2009

A bunch of motorcycle tribes are visiting this weekend. Thousands of them. Highway Patrol is having a field day out my Fort ord giving our tickets. I quess we are desperate for money in Monterey county.

At Seaside Beach colorful kites are blowing in the wind. The fog is beginning to disperse.

I am on my way out to water the garden.

Saturday, July 4, 2009

Once again I watched the local Fourth of July parade with family. I went early with the other old people and reserved the curb space for the folks coming a little later. There were fewer people attending and participating, a sign of the bad economic times.

The sun never came out. The kids andIi agreed that it was a 14 dog parade.

We actually counted 14 dog in the parade. This was the lowest number of dogs in any parade we have seen. There was one old horse and about 10 parrots.

Friday, July 3, 2009

My roommate has just finished weed eating he back yard. It looks so much neater.
I'm going to dinner and movies tonight with a friend.

Thursday, July 2, 2009

I've been rereading some of the books by Carolyn Heilbrun. THE LAST GIFT OF TIME and WRITING A WOMAN'S LIFE. I read these books decades ago and now reading them again I am still inspired by her look at being a woman in this Western culture.

Wednesday, July 1, 2009

After leaving netflix two years ago, I reuped. It was so easy, they had my old list, all my information, just push a couple of buttons and movies will sent to me.

The question is whether I will actually watch them in a timely manner or let them sit around until the right time.

I am starting with the John Adams documentary that everyone says is great. I will let you know.
